Race heats up fast

Mayor Mick Cornett's announcement that he will seek re-election sets up a race against Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid, who said earlier this summer that he was running. Filing for office is in late January, so the field could change, but the campaign is well underway on social media, where both candidates first announced their campaigns.

Here's a sample of Monday's chatter:

Cornett, on Facebook, where his page had 3,726 likes:

“Our work's not done yet. I am running for re-election as your Mayor, so that we can continue Oklahoma City's renaissance together.”

Shadid, on Twitter, where he has 1,742 followers:

“13 years isn't enough to get the work done? It's time for a mayor who can. #Finally #GameOn”
