Canadian Valley Technology Center lauds employees

Teacher of the year and other awards were bestowed on employees as the school year drew to a close.

EL RENO — Deborah White was named 2012 teacher of the year at Canadian Valley Technology Center's El Reno Campus, while Sandra Denton was named teacher of the year at the Dr. Earl Cowan Campus near Yukon.

White, of Oklahoma City, came to Canadian Valley in 1985. She teaches early care and education.

Denton, of Yukon, has taught biomedical sciences at the school since 2006. She retired this year and was honored with a reception May 22.

Denton said she looks forward to doing whatever she wants whenever she wants. She is married to Yukon Public Schools Superintendent Bill Denton.

El Reno professional of the year is maintenance supervisor Wendell Myers of El Reno, who was hired in 2007.

Computer tech Wes McIntosh of El Reno was named support staff of the year. He has been with the school since 2010.

June Tate of Mustang is the support staff employee of the year at the Cowan campus. She joined the school in 2001.

Also retiring at the El Reno Campus after 22 years of service are instructional services coordinator Linda Laverty of Yukon and custodian Roy Estep of El Reno, who has been at CV Tech for 20 years.

Both were honored with a retirement reception May 24 in El Reno. Laverty told co-workers she plans to spend lots of time with grandchildren and with her husband of nearly 43 years, Eddie. He is a cattle rancher and trains horses.

Laverty's daughter-in-law, Carey Laverty, and daughter, Cara, are also educators. Carey teaches at Yukon Middle School, while Cara works at Oklahoma State University.

Estep said he and his wife of 43 years, Linda, plan to go camping as often as they can.
