Anyone interested in taking part in the Putnam City School District’s Cancer Classic run on Saturday can still sign up.

More Info

Fundraising efforts

• The run was started in 2008 as school officials looked to add a new wrinkle to their fundraising efforts for the foundation.

• Through the years, the school district has raised more than $2.8 million for cancer research by having bake sales, car washes and school carnivals.

To enter

• For more information or for entry forms, go to www.pccancerclassic.com.

The run begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Hefner. The entry fee is $30 for the 5K run or $15 for the one-mile course. Walkers and runners are welcome.

Proceeds will go to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Event organizer Jason Hasty said about 500 people have signed up for this year’s run.

Last year, the run raised more than $8,000 for cancer research.

Hasty said he hopes they can raise more this year.
