Mary Sosa, who describes herself as an advocate for Hispanic Americans, announced Monday that she will be a Democratic candidate for the state House of Representatives in south Oklahoma City's District 89.

Sosa, 63, is a retired Oklahoma City employee. She has lived in District 89 for 33 years and is the former president of the College Hill Neighborhood Association.

She is a volunteer for several organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Neighborhood Alliance. She also is an active member of the Capitol Hill Church of Christ.

Sosa is seeking the seat held by Rebecca Hamilton, who will not be able to seek re-election in November 2014 because of term limits.
