Candidates file for municipal seats in Norman
NORMAN — Three people will vie for the mayor's post in Norman's April 2 city election.
Incumbents in Wards 1, 3, 5 and 7 have filed for re-election, and all drew an opponent. The filing period, which opened Monday, closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Mayor Cindy Rosenthal is running for a third term and is challenged by Tom Sherman and David Kempf.
Rosenthal, 62, is director of the Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma. Sherman, 67, a retired banker, is the controller for Fowler Holding Company, and Kempf, 51, is a small-business owner.
The mayor's post is a three-year term. Ward seats are two-year terms.
Council races
Hoping to retain his seat in Ward 1 is Roger Gallagher, 72, a retired airline pilot. Challenging him is Greg Heiple, 48, a small-business owner.
In Ward 3, incumbent Robert Castleberry, 48, an accountant, drew opposition from Benjamin Carter, 28, a music instructor. Castleberry is seeking his first full term. He was appointed in August to fill the unexpired term of Hal Ezzell, who resigned.
Dave Spaulding, 38, a small-business owner, will seek a second term in Ward 5. Lynne Miller, 67, a retired educator, will run against him.
Ward 7 incumbent Linda Lockett, 74, a retired business owner, is seeking a second term. Stephen Tyler Holman, 28, who works for Astronomics, opposes her.
A runoff election, if needed, will be May 14.
