Appeals court judge selected
Cleveland County District Judge William C. Hetherington Jr., above, was appointed Friday to the state Court of Civil Appeals. He succeeds Judge Glenn Adams, who retired in September. Gov. Brad Henry selected Hetherington, 62, of Norman from three candidates whose names were submitted by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Hetherington has been a district judge in Oklahoma’s 21st Judicial District since 1992. Before that, he served as a special district judge and was in private practice. Hetherington graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 and earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University in 1979.
Red cedar ideas sought at talks
Rep. Richard Morrissette, above, is hosting two meetings to get ideas on other methods than controlled burns to remove Eastern red cedar trees, as well as ideas on possible uses for the harvested trees. Morrissette, D-
Oklahoma City, said the meetings at the state Capitol are a follow-up to his interim legislative study last month on the fire danger caused by the cedar trees taking over additional land each year. Those interested in attending should call Morrissette’s office at 557-7404 to reserve space. The meetings are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Room 108 and 8:30 a.m. Nov. 18 in Room 432A.
