County commissioners

At stake: House Bill 1089 repeals a law barring county commissioners from owning railroad stock.

What happened: Signed by the governor.

What's next: Takes effect Nov. 1.

Pensions

At stake: Senate Bill 847 would allow spillover money — or money that is available after the state's savings account, the Rainy Day Fund, has reached its limit — to go to a special fund to go toward help reducing the $13 billion in unfunded liability for the state's pension plans.

What happened: Passed the House, 87-12.

What's next: Goes back to the Senate.
