CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Cardiff won the first Welsh derby in Premier League history by beating Swansea 1-0 thanks to Steven Caulker's second-half header on Sunday.

The defender, who previously spent a season on loan at Swansea, met Craig Bellamy's 62nd-minute corner with a powerful, downward header to settle a frenetic match at Cardiff City Stadium.

The victory lifted Cardiff four points clear of the bottom three — and above Swansea — in the standings but more importantly gave the team's fans bragging rights over their fierce rivals after what had been billed as Wales' biggest ever club match.

Swansea threatened early through Michu, who twice drew saves from Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall, but struggled afterward and had goalkeeper Michel Vorm sent off in second-half stoppage time for a professional foul on Fraizer Campbell.
