The Carl Albert backfield will have a different look this season with an experiment to put tight end Chantz Woodberry at running back.
The 240-pound Woodberry is a powerful runner, and an ideal complement to shifty quarterback Stevie Thompson, both as a ball-carrier and lead blocker.
“He’s trying to get ready for it, but I think he’s gonna shock some people,” said Thompson, The Oklahoman’s All-State quarterback selection last season after rushing for 1,926 yards and 36 touchdowns. “It’s gonna be real interesting.”
Garrett Asher rushed for over 800 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry at tailback last year. But Woodberry provides a different look than the 150-pound Asher.
