— Carl Albert High School students and alumni celebrated homecoming over the weekend, and many also marked the 50-year anniversary of the school.

A football game, gatherings at local churches, a parade and an open house allowed students — past and present — to mingle and swap stories.

Carl Albert High School opened as Carl B. Albert Junior-Senior High School in September 1962.

David Baker, a 1967 alumnus, helped organize many of the anniversary events with his wife, Linda.

“It was a chance for us to visit old friends and get reacquainted,” he said.

David Baker brought with him to many anniversary events an impressive collection of school memorabilia.

A Midwest City native, his family's roots in the area go back before statehood.

His children and stepchildren attended Carl Albert, and so did his siblings and many of his cousins.

A school trivia aficionado, he recites facts about the school like a computer pulling from a database:

He knows when the building was officially dedicated (January 1964 — he even has a copy of the announcement).

He can show you covers of every senior high yearbook in the school's history. (The covers were copied and minimized for display.)

He even brags that his wife knows more people from his graduating class than her own. (She's an alumnae of Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City.)

“We do this to keep the history alive,” Linda Baker said. “The memories are what it's all about.”
