Carl Albert's Madisyn Long committed to Oklahoma State, didn't feel pressure to follow in sisters' footsteps

Her sisters Savannah Long and Karolyne Long went to play softball at Oklahoma, but Madisyn Long didn't feel like she had to do the same. She does have at least one Cowboy in the family, though — Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy is her uncle.

Right now, she said, Karolyne wins the hard-throwing contest, but she's closing the gap.

“I'm going to catch up, don't worry about that,” Madisyn said.

For now, though, Long is concentrating on doing something else her sisters didn't do — winning a third state title.

The Titans have won the last two state championships and are 12-1 in their pursuit of a third.

“It'd be a perfect way of ending my high school career,” Long said. “I've always wanted to get to three because my sisters just got two.”

Long said this year's team is in a better position than even last year's team.

“Last year, we weren't so confident during the season because we weren't really sure we were good enough to win it,” she said. “This year, we're not overconfident, but with the players we've added, we know we have the talent and everything else we need to get back there again.”
