Country music superstar Carrie Underwood, who hails from Checotah, and her husband, professional hockey player Mike Fisher, are expecting their first child in spring, her publicist confirmed for me this morning.
Underwood announced the big news on Twitter (@carrieunderwood) Monday by dressing up her dogs, Ace and Penny, in matching shirts with the slogans “I’m going to be a big brother” and “I’m going to be a big sister.”
“In honor of “Labor” Day…Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn’t be happier” she tweeted.
Fisher (@mikefisher1212) also treated the big news playfully on social media, tweeting “We haven’t picked names yet but it’s looking like Fly is gonna fly. #boyorgirl #flyfisher”
Although she only has three festival dates on her tour schedule right now, her baby probably won’t be the only special delivery Underwood is working on in the coming months. Back at the end of June, she told the Hollywood Reporter that she’ll soon be heading into the studio to work on her new album.
“I’ve been writing a lot. It feels really good,” she told the trade publication, calling the forthcoming album “a new version” of herself.
“It’s just a progression, a different sound without losing myself in it. I’m not taking some crazy musical departure from what I’ve done, but it definitely feels different. It will feel different, look different, sound different.”
Tishomingo resident Miranda Lambert, Underwood’s duet partner on their smash “Somethin’ Bad,” is among the many folks who took to Twitter to pass best wishes on to Underwood and Fisher, posting today @mirandalambert, “Big congrats to my friend @carrieunderwood (aka Louise) on her big news!!!! So happy for her and Mike!”
Underwood and Fisher celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary July 10.
