And why would he? After all, Oklahoma’s receivers and defensive backs were working on routes and coverages in a non-contact drill.

But that didn’t stop then-freshman safety Quinton Carter from laying Caleb out, prompting the Sooner coaches to throw Carter out of practice. It wouldn’t be the last time Carter was ejected for being too physical in practice, either.

"We laugh about it now,” Caleb said. "But man, he used to be a headhunter.”

Four years later, Carter is still a headhunter, just no longer to his own teammates.

"I was confused at first getting kicked out of practice for being physical, because we’d be in our meetings and the coaches would put extra emphasis on being physical and playing physical,” Carter said. "Now I understand, and I don’t blow up guys in practice anymore.

"But our receivers always tell me they still look out for me before they run their routes.
