When the fourth quarter started, and Putnam City was leading by 21 points, the Pirates were taken back to a year ago against the same opponent, Del City. In that game, PC let a three-score lead slip away, and ultimately finished one win short of the playoffs.

On Thursday night at Putnam City Stadium, the ninth-ranked Pirates made sure to never let off the gas, finishing off a 56-34 victory over the Eagles.

For the second time this season, Casey Curtis accounted for more than 300 rushing yards and six touchdowns, pounding out the tough yards between the tackles and breaking free on a few long ones as well.

“It gets me pumped up every time I see Casey getting pumped up about his runs, and I see the other linemen, and we know we're doing our jobs,” PC offensive lineman Derrick Rivers said. “That fourth-quarter comeback for them last year, it really hurt. So this was really big.

“In the fourth quarter, coach (John Wofford) told us to remember last year and how it felt to lose. We brought it to them.”

Curtis carried the ball 29 times for 308 yards, scoring three TDs in each half, bringing his season totals to 1,011 yards and 21 touchdowns on just 104 carries as the Pirates moved their record to 5-0 for the first time since 2007.
