Cashion to honor Larry Mantle

Cashion will honor former coach Larry “Butch” Mantle on Friday during its game against Minco.

Mantle, who is the brother of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle, coached football at Cashion from 1969-77, compiling a school best 69-22-1 record. The Wildcats won the 1977 state championship after finishing as runner-up in 1976.

Mantle, now retired and living in Lawton, also coached at Cordell, Velma-Alma and Northwest Classen, He also spent some time in Texas.
