Cavaliers contacted Kansas’ Bill Self about head coaching job Published: July 15, 2014

The Big 12 basketball landscape could have been significantly changed this offseason. But Bill Self stayed put.

As part of a lengthy search that included courtships with multiple college coaches, the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers contacted the University of Kansas coach about the vacancy, Self told The Kansas City Star on Monday. Self declined to discuss specifics about his conversations with the Cavaliers, and he did not provide a timetable for when they occurred.

Cleveland ultimately hired David Blatt on June 20, three weeks before LeBron James announced his return home to Northeast Ohio.
