Since "Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer publicly acknowledged the bands that inspired her writing, her fans have been speculating about the soundtrack to the movie.

Like the film, the soundtrack, which is No. 1 on Billboard charts, proves faithful to Meyer’s vision. Several of her favorites made the cut on the album, which fittingly has a tone of angst with enough variety to prevent emo overload. Half the 12 tracks are original, and the others are previously released material.

Muse, one of Meyer’s greatest inspirations, opens the disc with the darkly pulsating "Supermassive Black Hole,” and Linkin Park’s "Leave out All the Rest” builds on the atmospheric brooding. Collective Soul’s "Tremble for My Beloved” adds to the moody feel and offers a break from the gloom.

Though the soundtrack often overwhelms when watching the movie, as a collection of songs, the album should appeal to Meyers and her fans.
