Celtic music show at Norman Unitarian Fellowship to help stock food pantry
Published: October 27, 2009
NORMAN — Harvest for Norman, a benefit concert for Cleveland County’s food pantry, begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Norman Unitarian Fellowship, 1309 W Boyd St.
Boru’s Ghost and Emerald Flame will perform. The bands play Celtic music. The event also features a special performance by the Norman Belly Dance Club. Refreshments will be served and free child care is offered. Donations of money, nonperishable food items and adult and children’s coats will be accepted at the door. All money raised and items collected will benefit Cleveland County Community Action Agency’s food pantry. The food pantry aids hundreds of local families every year. The needs continue to increase as families struggle in the current economy, said Lenora Chapman, a family support specialist who oversees the program. "Many of our clients are single parents providing on minimal income,” she said. "Some current trends that we are noticing are more and more families facing unemployment, which pushes them to making a decision to buy food or pay their bills. Many people are visiting the food pantry for the first time.” The event is sponsored by Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Unitarian Universalist Community Church and Oklahoma Food Cooperative.
