CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Central Arkansas has hired longtime Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College coach Steve Campbell as the Bears' new football coach.

The university says Campbell will be introduced Friday afternoon at a news conference on the school's campus in Conway. He replaces Clint Conque, who left last week to take the head coaching job at Stephen F. Austin.

Campbell is 88-22 in his 10 seasons leading Mississippi Gulf Coast, including a national championship in 2007. Previously, he was 27-8 in three seasons at Delta State, also picking up a Division II national championship in 2000.

Central Arkansas athletic director Brad Teague says Campbell is a "perfect fit" for the Bears, which won three conference championships during Conque's 14 years as head coach.
