CEO of W.Va.'s largest health care system retiring
FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — The chief executive of West Virginia United Health System will retire at year's end.
J. Thomas Jones informed the board of his decision late last week.
West Virginia University President and board Chairman Jim Clements said Monday that Jones helped WVU fulfill its mission to serve the state, and championed teaching and research.
Jones is only the second person to lead the state's largest health care system since it was formed in 1996.
Today, it includes Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, City Hospital in Martinsburg, Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, and Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg.
It also includes United Physicians Care and the Health Partners Network.
During Jones' tenure, United Hospital Center built a $300 million facility along Interstate 79, and Ruby was expanded.
