Champs Sports Bowl the best December bowl

1. Champs Sports Bowl: Notre Dame vs. Florida State, 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Magic names. Pedestrian teams.

2. Chick-fil-A Bowl: Virginia vs. Auburn, 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Wonder if chicken sandwiches are served in the pressbox. I'd vote yea.

3. Music City Bowl: Wake Forest vs. Mississippi State, 5:40 p.m. Friday. Did you know Dan Mullen was one of the nation's 20 highest-paid coaches.

4. Armed Forces Bowl: Tulsa vs. Brigham Young, 11 a.m. Friday. Great bowl for TU. A big-name foe without big-game fangs.

5. Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Utah, noon Saturday. Always enjoy watching Paul Johnson's triple option.

6. Belk Bowl: North Carolina State vs. Louisville, 7 p.m. Tuesday. Cheer for the Cardinals, in case they join the Big 12 soon.

7. Liberty Bowl: Vanderbilt vs. Cincinnati, 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Ditto for Cincy.

8. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl: Purdue vs. Western Michigan, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Just the third Big Ten team to play in the Motor City bowl.

9. Military Bowl: Air Force vs. Toledo, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lost my interest when Tim Beckman left Toledo to take the Illinois job.

10. Fight Hunger Bowl: Illinois vs. UCLA, 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Good pick for worst bowl game ever. No winning records (UCLA 6-7, Illinois 6-6) and both head coaches fired.
