Chance for rain in Oklahoma continues through weekend

A cold front moved through central and southwestern Oklahoma this afternoon and should remain in western and south-central Oklahoma on Friday. The front will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms to the area today through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A few thunderstorms will create wind gusts more than 50 mph, but forecasters aren't predicting severe weather.

Skies will be partly cloudy on Friday, with highs from the upper 80s to upper 90s.

Overnight lows will drop into the mid-60s to lower 70s, with skies remaining partly cloudy. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms in eastern Oklahoma and a slight chance in the Panhandle.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms will remain Saturday in southeastern Oklahoma, with a slight chance in the northeast part of the state. Skies will be partly cloudy and highs will be from the upper 80s to upper 90s, although they could reach 100 in the southwest and the Panhandle.

The storms are expected to linger through the holiday weekend before leaving the state Sunday, according to the weather service.

Oklahoma City-area forecast

Tonight: Lows from the lower 60s to lower 70s. Chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Friday: Highs from the upper 80s to upper 90s. Chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Friday night: Lows from the mid-60s to lower 70s. Chance of rain and thunderstorms in the east and slight chance of rain and thunderstorms in the Panhandle.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 70s. Easterly winds about 10 mph before turning light and variable. Forty percent chance of thunderstorms.

Friday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid-90s. Southerly winds about 10 mph. Thirty percent chance of thunderstorms.

Friday night: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 70s. Southerly winds 10 to 15 mph.
