Mercy Ministries of America and Whiz Kids were the beneficiaries of the Oct. 5-6 tournament.

For more than 25 years, Mercy Ministries of America has helped young women seeking freedom from life-controlling problems such as drug and alcohol addictions, depression, eating disorders, unplanned pregnancy, physical and sexual abuse and self-harm.

Whiz Kids is a faith-based, one-on-one volunteer tutoring and mentoring program focusing on first- through eighth-grade students who live in areas that have some of the highest dropout rates and lowest socioeconomic levels in Oklahoma City.

The mission of CityCare’s Whiz Kids is for volunteers to improve the well-being of disadvantaged youths through academic tutoring, positive mentoring relationships and spiritual nurturing.

Petra is an Edmond-based national wholesale distributor of consumer electronics, custom installation products, mobile audio and video accessories, and appliance connection supplies.

Tourney festivities
Tournament festivities kicked off Oct. 5 at Fox and Hound Pub & Grille with a cocktail reception and a poker tournament. The next day, 105 participants started the tournament at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.

The tourney concluded with an awards luncheon. Bill Stewart, president and chief executive officer of Petra Industries, presented checks for $30,000 to Selah Hirsch, Mercy Ministries of America development director, and Masie Bross, Whiz Kids program director.

"Our charity golf tournament has always been a huge success, and we are proud to say that this year was no exception,” Stewart said.

Jennifer Herzberger is marketing director for Petra Industries.
