Texas coach Charlie Strong said that former Oklahoma prep standout Josh Turner “has done everything we’ve asked him to do” following Turner’s brief dismissal from the team in July.
Turner, the top football prospect in Oklahoma out of Millwood High School in 2011, was kicked off the UT football team this summer for a violation of team rules, part of a spree of dismissals by Strong in the offseason. He was then reinstated after appealing his dismissal to Strong.
Strong said that Turner, receiver Daje Johnson and offensive lineman Desmond Harrison will all be suspended from Saturday’s season opener against North Texas in Austin. Strong hasn’t decided how many games the three players will miss.
“Josh has done everything we’ve asked him to do,” Strong said during the Big 12 coaches’ teleconference on Monday. “We know he’s working and he’s practicing hard.”
Turner returns to Texas as one of its most experienced players in the secondary. The senior has played in 37 games in his career.
