Cheers & Jeers: Batesole's Cinderella run, NL's poor interleague showing

Cheers
•To former Oral Roberts baseball star Mike Batesole, who coached Fresno State to the College World Series title, capping the greatest Cinderella story in NCAA championship history.

•To Chris Paul's impending contract extension with the Hornets. Good for George Shinn and good for New Orleans and good for Paul to stick with the franchise that bears his face.

•To Stillwater's Matt Holliday, who despite a miserable season for the Colorado Rockies is batting .337 and has raised his career average to .321. Only 50 hitters in major-league history have hit higher.

Jeers
•To the National League's ineptitude in interleague play. The AL is 149-102 against the NL this season, with only one game remaining, and since 2004 the Americans are 826-641.

•To Phil Loadholt's DUI arrest last weekend. The Sooner lineman was a likely high draft pick, but NFL teams are starting to frown on such problems. When will Loadholt and other collegians realize the cost of their discretions?

•To the sad decline of Michelle Wie, who seems past her prime at age 18. Wie finished in the top five in three 2006 majors, but her last five majors have resulted in four missed cuts and a tie for 84th.
