• To baseball's interleague play. The Yankees played in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night for the first time since the 1960 World Series. Pittsburgh fans deserve such a treat.
• To Boone Pickens. Turns out, Pickens' mega-donations have inspired other huge gifts: $20 million from Sherman Smith, now $56 million from Malone Mitchell, who is giving half to academics, half to athletics.
• To the Olympic berths of Jonathan Horton and Daniel Cormier. OU gymnasts and OSU wrestlers have a proud legacy, and these guys have paid the price for their reward.
Jeers
• To Shaquille O'Neal's rap jabs at Kobe Bryant. The Shaq-Kobe feud finally had mellowed. Why pick at the scab with Kobe coming off an NBA Finals defeat to the obviously-superior Celtics? Why pick at the scab at all?
• To the lack of role players on the U.S. Olympic basketball team. A roster full of superstars, with a college coach (Mike Krzyzewski)? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
• To women's tennis. Who is Ana Ivanovic, and how did she become the No. 1-ranked player in the world?
