Cheers
•To former OSU defensive lineman Juqua Parker, who this year changed his name from Juqua Thomas to honor his late father. Parker has made only nine starts in his eight-year NFL career, but Sunday had a dominant day against the Steelers: 2.5 sacks, five tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a pass batted down and four quarterback hits.

•To Gus Malzahn's "wildcat” offense, which the Dolphins used to stun New England on Sunday. Malzahn employed the old single-wing formation during his stint at Arkansas, which used it last season even after Malzahn left to become offensive coordinator at Tulsa U. Jeers
•To the Yankees' snub of Joe Torre during the Yankee Stadium farewell Sunday night. The Yanks honored every conceivable icon in their history, even dressing up imposters in vintage uniforms of the '23 team. But no mention of Torre, who managed New York to the playoffs the previous 13 seasons. Torre, now the Dodger manager, wins in the end; he's going to the playoffs in 2008.

•To the laptop spotted in the Notre Dame coaching box Saturday at Michigan State. That's a no-no and makes you wonder what else Charlie Weis learned from his days with the cut-corners Patriots.

•To the hand-wringing over possible BCS scenarios in December. The BCS usually blows up after Thanksgiving, and we're worried about what-ifs before the first game of autumn?
