Chesapeake Energy Corp. on Thursday announced the addition of five new members to its nine-man board, including new independent chairman Archie W. Dunham. They will join holdovers Louis A. Simpson, Merrill A. “Pete” Miller Jr. and co-founder Aubrey McClendon, who ceded his position as chairman but will remain as the company's president and CEO. The new directors are:

• Archie W. Dunham, 73, former CEO of Conoco and chairman of ConocoPhillips. The former U.S. Marine, an Oklahoma native who earned two degrees from the University of Oklahoma, has no prior ties to Chesapeake.

• Bob G. Alexander (photo unavailable), 78, founded Alexander Energy Corp. He was the company's chairman and CEO until its 1996 sale to National Energy Group. Alexander, who earned a geological engineering degree from OU, served as chairman and CEO of National Energy Group until it was sold to SandRidge Energy Inc. in 2006.

• Vincent J. Intrieri, 55, has worked for Chesapeake investor Carl Icahn in a variety of capacities since 1998. He has been senior managing director of Icahn Capital LP since 2008.
