Chesapeake, GE deal is

not affected

Chesapeake Energy Corp.'s deal with technology company GE will not be impacted by its decision to eliminate its market development team.

Chesapeake had an exclusive deal to market GE's CNG in a Box, a plug-in natural gas fueling station, but it ended in January, said Ujjwal Kumar, general manager of the turbomachinery unconventional solutions product line for GE Oil & Gas.

Kumar said Chesapeake helped GE connect with customers for its self-contained compression units, which were designed to help speed the development of natural gas fueling stations. The Oklahoma City company also provided installation services.

GE aids in marketing and installation now that Chesapeake has pulled back from its advocacy efforts, Kumar said, but the companies still work together.

He did not have sales figures available Monday, but he said GE churns out about one unit a week.

“Our CNG assembly line is up and thriving,” Kumar said.

GE also has developed a similar unit for liquefied natural gas fueling.

Kumar said demand for both versions of the fueling unit is growing in the United States and abroad, as GE remains committed to natural gas as a transportation fuel.
