James R. Webb has been promoted to executive vice president at Chesapeake Energy Corp., the company announced Wednesday.
Webb joined the company as general counsel and senior vice president of legal in 2012 after 17 years with McAfee and Taft, Oklahoma's largest law firm.
Webb will oversee compliance; environment, health and safety; corporate security and ethics; human resources; and government and community relations in his new role, which includes corporate secretary.
“Jim is an outstanding servant-leader and is committed to executing our business strategies of financial discipline and profitable and efficient growth from captured resources,” CEO Doug Lawler said. “He embraces our core values, is a trusted adviser to me, and is an invaluable member of our executive team.
“I am grateful for Jim's dedication to Chesapeake and confident he will be a significant contributor to the success of our company in the years ahead.”
Webb is one of three executive vice presidents at Chesapeake, which has remade its executive team since Lawler replaced co-founder Aubrey McClendon as CEO last year.
