Chicago Children's Museum to stay at Navy Pier

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Children's Museum has signed a 90-year lease with Navy Pier after years of questions about its permanent home.

The 30-year-old museum signed the lease on Monday, giving it a home at the tourist destination for the rest of the century. The lease gives the museum more space, increasing its footprint from 57,000-square-feet to 84,000-square-feet.

The museum was the focus of controversy in recent years when public officials proposed moving it to Grant Park. Earlier this year Mayor Rahm Emanuel rejected the idea. The mayor on Monday congratulated the museum and said the institution would be a "strong pillar" in Navy Pier's redevelopment.

This summer Navy Pier unveiled revitalization plans that included the museum.
