— Cleveland County deputies have arrested two Chickasha men on suspicion of looting in the Newalla area that was struck by a tornado May 19.

Scotty Young Ash, 34, and Johnny Dale Ash III, 23, were charged Wednesday in Cleveland County District Court with misdemeanor counts of disturbing a disaster scene. They are accused of taking about $500 worth of scrap metal from tornado victims' property.

This brings the total of looting arrests to six in the past two weeks, sheriff's spokeswoman Meghan McCormick said.

Deputies were alerted Tuesday to two men stealing scrap metal from Woodside Drive in Newalla, McCormick said. A deputy stopped two men in a pickup that had scrap metal in the back. The men admitted to taking the metal from a property without the owner's permission, McCormick said.

They told the deputy they had been taking scrap metal from properties within the disaster area for the past seven days and they intended to sell it for a profit, McCormick said.

Sheriff Joe Lester said taking anything from a declared disaster area without permission of the property owner is illegal. has disabled the comments for this article.
