Carlton L. Burgin, 58, of Choctaw, died in the crash, troopers said.

Deputy Raymond L. Leach, 24, of Hominy, was driving south on State Highway 48, about four miles east of Terlton in Pawnee County. He had the lights and sirens on en route to a 911 call. Leach swerved to miss a vehicle and hit Carlton Burgin's northbound vehicle in the driver's side door, then hit a another vehicle before the police cruiser came to a rest, troopers said. Burgin was yielding to the deputy at the time of the crash, the report states.

Two passengers in Burgin's vehicle, William L. Burgin, 82, of Tulsa, and Dana F. Burgin, 59, of Choctaw, were flown to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, according to the report.

Leach was treated and released from a Tulsa hospital with head injuries, and the driver of the third vehicle was not hurt, troopers said.

All involved were wearing seat belts.
