CHOCTAW — Authorities tightened security this week at Choctaw High School after police received a report that a 16-year-old student threatened to shoot up the school, Police Chief Billy Carter said.

On Friday morning a student put a plastic bag over his head and yelled "white power” in the high school’s commons area, Principal Donny Black said. The student was suspended immediately, but he later sent a text message to a friend threatening to bring a gun to school, Black said.
"We verified the text message came from the same student,” Black said. "We were able to talk to both the student and the parent. We read the message to the parent and they understand the seriousness of this.”
Two or three officers were on the school grounds at all times Tuesday and extra officers were called into the area as students arrived in the morning and when school was dismissed for the day, Carter said.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office and Harrah and Nicoma Park police departments are assisting in the heightened security, Carter said.
Carter said the student has not been arrested, and the department is consulting with the district attorney’s office about possible charges. The student transferred to the district in April, Black said.
Increased security will likely last for the next two weeks, Black said, and after spring break his staff will reassess the need.
