Christian Bale says the Bat-cowl is off — for the final time.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer recently interviewed Christian Bale, who starred in the blockbusters “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight.” He's recently finished filming “The Dark Knight Rises,” set for a 2012 release. The films are directed by Christopher Nolan. “The Dark Knight” grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
“I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that cowl off,” he said to PDI. “I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.”
Anne Hathaway joins the third film as Catwoman.
“I had plenty of scenes with Anne,” Bale told PDI. “And I was there when we did the screen test for her. The thing that I said to Chris [Nolan] that day was that there were many very accomplished actresses who had read for the role. I'm terrible at auditions, so I'm very impressed when somebody really seems to acquire an ownership of a character without having worked on it or prepared for some amount of time.”
Bale is now filming “Lawless,” which co-stars Ryan Gosling and is directed by Terrence Malick. Malick recently filmed an as-yet untitled film with Rachel McAdams and Ben Affleck in Bartlesville. Bale visited Bartlesville in 2009 “doing a little bit of location scouting and getting ideas for something that ... might ... happen,” he told The Oklahoman's George Lang.
