Members of a local church spread out into the community during the week of St. Valentine's Day to share love and hope with local nonprofits and faith-based organizations.

Tiffanie Hicks, student ministries coordinator at, said church members were encouraged to volunteer for metro-area organizations Feb. 9-15 to show the love of Christ to the community.

Hicks said the special project, called “Love OKC Week,” was part of Love OKC, a nonprofit ministry started by the Rev. Rodney Fouts, Northchurch's senior pastor.

She said Northchurch members were given the names of different agencies and the dates and times that volunteers could visit them and offer aid.

“It kind of takes a holiday about couples and expands on it,” Hicks said. “It was a way to encourage people to love on each other and the community.”

Hicks said some church members helped out at City Rescue Mission, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Peppers Ranch foster care community in Guthrie, Feed The Children, Whiz Kids, Angel Foster Wishes and other nonprofits.

She said she led a group of church members who helped beautify Shiloh Camp, a summer day camp in northwest Oklahoma City, on Feb. 15.

Most of the agencies have year-round relationships with Northchurch and Love OKC, so staff members were familiar with the church members' mission to serve, Hick said.

“This was something that people could work into their schedules during the week,” she said.

“I think it's important that everyone have those opportunities to serve.”
