Members of Southern Hills United Methodist Church will celebrate the retirement of a longtime choir director at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 8200 S Pennsylvania. Shirley Walker has been the church’s only children’s choir director, having served as director of the Melody Choir for 48 years. She will be honored after the Melody Choir’s annual spring sing. Walker’s first choir sang on March 22, 1966, and had about six first- and second-grade students, including her own son Andy. About 36 students made up her largest choir, and the age of the students went up to sixt- graders. All former students are invited to attend or send favorite memories to the church in care of one of her favorite accompanists, Sharon Saulmon. For more information, call 681-5515.
