UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Alyesha Lovett scored 19 points and eighth-seeded Cincinnati held on, edging Central Florida 54-52 Friday in the first game of the American Athletic Conference tournament.

The Bearcats (13-17) face No. 1 Connecticut in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Andrea Hines of 9th-seeded UCF (10-20) had a three-quarter length of the court heave hit the rim at the buzzer after the Knights used a turnover for two baskets within six seconds and then Cincinnati missed a layup with three seconds left.

Cincinnati, which trailed 26-24 at the half, raced to a 40-30 lead early in the second half but UCF battled back to get within one, the last time at 48-47 on a Stephanie Taylor jumper with 3:24 to go. But Kayla Cook quickly responded with a 3 and Marley Hill made a jumper at 1:54 to make it 53-47.

Zykira Lewis had 15 points for UCF, which grabbed 20 offensive rebounds.
