Nine Scouts and six chaperones left for three weeks in Europe — which includes a two-week camping trip in Ayrshire, Scotland, with fellow Scouts from around the globe.

The girls are from two troops whose members come from Oklahoma City, Moore and Norman. They spent the past two years fundraising to pay for the trip, which costs $4,200 per person, troop leader Barbara Thompson said.

Besides the camping trip, Thompson said they've planned stops in France, England and Ireland to extend their European vacation.

Courtney McCreight, 18, of Norman shared a tearful goodbye with her parents before stepping up to the American Airlines ticket counter Monday morning.

"She's never been out of the country, but she's really looking forward to it,” said her mother, Deborah McCreight.

The group flew into Dallas and then connected with their 9 1/2 -hour flight to Paris, where they're scheduled to land 7 a.m. today.

A birthday at the Eiffel Tower
Girl Scout Kricket Linnell of Oklahoma City will celebrate her 14th birthday Wednesday by visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

"I'm nervous and excited,” Kricket said before checking in for her flight.

After two years of preparation, Oklahoma City resident Bridgette Bullock, 18, said she's just excited to start her last year of Girl Scouts with an international camping trip.

"We get to camp with people from all over the world and learn different cultures,” Bullock said.
