The Shawnee News-Star reports that the Shawnee City Commission did not renew its contract with the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce.
That contract creates the Convention and Visitors Bureau, designed to promote tourism, and the chamber runs the office.
But with no contract, the bureau loses funding needed to do so.
The newspaper reports that, by city ordinance, hotels charge an additional fee that goes back to the city for tourism promotion.
The chamber gets some of the funding to run the bureau.
Part of the holdup is that the audit for the year has not been completed.
So, commissioners voted to defer renewing the contract until the audit is finished.
