Claiming a mandate
Since the election, President Obama and others have been claiming a “mandate” from the people. The facts don't support that claim. Obama won the popular vote by only 2 percentage points. In the Congress, the Democrats have a majority in the Senate and the Republicans have the majority in the House. Percentage-wise, the majority for each party is the same. Perhaps the most important majority is that of the 50 governors, 30 are Republicans. This makes it clear where the mandate really lies.
