Bill Clark wants low preseason expectations to bother his UAB players.

The first-year Blazers coach takes over a struggling program with a mission of transforming everything from training habits to the players' mind-sets. Changing minds of fans and Conference USA will only happen on the field.

UAB is picked to finish sixth in the seven-team East Division. Clark says if that doesn't motivate the Blazers, something's wrong.

But, he adds, "The only way to change that is to change it."

UAB hasn't had a winning record since 2004.

The Blazers do return eight starters on both offense and defense but are still seeking a starting quarterback.

Junior college transfer Cody Clements and redshirt freshman Jeremiah Briscoe are competing for that job.
