Savanna had scored three runs in the game on two throwing errors by Wayne and led 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.

Clifton, who already has committed to the University of Oklahoma, opened the sixth with a double, her third hit of the game, then stole third and scored on a throwing error.

She was the only Wayne batter with a hit until Nicki Herrin's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning tied the game 5-5.

Wayne coach Scott Brewer thought his star player would shine in the championship game.

“When she gets on and she hits, our chances of winning are great,” he said. “It's unbelievable the things she can do. They (Oklahoma) are going to get a good one.”

Wayne won three one-run games in the state tournament.
