Class 2A state track meet: Haworth's Timothy Posey impresses on, off the track

— Haworth track coach Johnny Crabtree has never seen an athlete with more determination than Timothy Posey.

“I've been at Haworth 22 years,” Crabtree said. “He's the best athlete that has come through Haworth regardless of the sport.”

Posey won both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Class 2A state track meet Saturday at Carl Albert High School, defending his state titles from a year ago.

Posey, a senior, finished his high school career with five gold medals, also winning the 100 hurdles as a sophomore.

But it's the work Posey has done off the track that impresses Crabtree the most.

“He is an outstanding athlete but he is a better individual,” said Crabtree, who also is the high school principal at Haworth, located in far southeastern Oklahoma.

When he is not running, Posey is usually working. He's had to earn money for such things as track shoes and school clothes and takes whatever jobs he can find, such as cleaning the school's gymnasium every day.
