Centennial's Morgan a three-timer

Centennial's Audrianna Morgan did what she always seems to do when she steps onto the track for a 100-meter dash — she ran faster than everyone else.

Only a junior, Morgan became a three-time winner of the Class 3A girls 100 meters, clocking a winning time of 12.40 seconds.

Morgan nearly earned a second three-time honor in the 200, but was edged out by Okmulgee's Brittany Stallings by less than one-tenth of a second in the 200.

Davis wins tight one

Davis and Millwood have had some classic football battles in recent years, and they had a tight race in the 3A boys 400 relay, with Davis pulling out the victory by a hundredth of a second.

Davis clocked a winning time of 44.51, with Millwood at 44.52.

Millwood bounced back to take the 800 relay with a winning time of 1:32.81 in the first-ever running of the event in 3A boys state competition.

Millwood's Janari Glover also picked up an individual win in the 100 in 10.87.

McGinnis takes high jump

Before the majority of fans had filtered into Noble Stadium Saturday, Heritage Hall's Tyler McGinnis was already standing atop the podium to receive his gold medal.

One of the first winners of the day, McGinnis won the Class 4A high jump at 6-5 1/2. Only three other competitors cleared 6-2.

Academic champs honored

The Lincoln Christian and Sulphur girls shared the podium for a photo after tying for the Class 3A academic state championship, each with 4.0 team grade-point averages.

Marlow won the 3A boys award with a 3.907 GPA.

In Class 4A, the Elgin girls and Tuttle boys each posted a 4.0 team GPA to win the championship trophies.

* Pauls Valley freshman Claire Grimmett held off a strong field to win the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.23.
