This time it was a Millwood player who made the game-winning shot for the Falcons.

A night after Hugo's Trey Johnson sank an improbable game-winning basket for Millwood, Ashford Golden's tip-in of a missed shot at the buzzer in double overtime gave the Falcons a 59-57 win over two-time defending state champion Centennial.

“I knew my teammate (Chris Crook) was going to drive and I knew if I crashed the boards I would get the rebound,” said Golden, who had 13 points and six rebounds in the game.

“I could have dunked it, but I didn't know how much time was left so I just laid it in. It felt like a dream at first.”

After Thursday night's miracle win over Hugo and the dramatic double-overtime victory Friday night over top-ranked Centennial, Millwood's Jaylen Edwards said the Falcons seem like a team destined to win a state championship.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Edwards said.

Millwood raced to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and held that 11-point lead at halftime.

Centennial (20-9) rallied to take the lead in the second half, only to have Millwood force overtime on a bucket by Michael Mays off an inbounds pass in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter.
