Class 3A championship notebook: Blanchard does it for Lynzey Kuzilik

The 16-year-old Blanchard student was recently diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a bone cancer.

Blanchard's players marked their wrist tape with “Play for Lynzey.”

The message was for Lynzey Kuzilik, a 16-year-old Blanchard student who was recently diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a bone cancer.

“She has cancer; she keeps fighting, so we should, too,” Blanchard receiver Zach Hill said after Blanchard beat Kingfisher 28-21 to win the Class 3A state title at Boone Pickens Stadium.

LAMLE GETS A BREAK

Late in the first quarter, Blanchard's Brock Lamle threw a pass that seemed ill-advised.

Scrambling for space, Lamle heaved a pass down the field that looked destined to be intercepted.

But Kingfisher's Landon Nault mistimed his jump and Tanner Foster pulled it in for a 52-yard gain.

A play later, Blanchard scored to go up 14-0.

“I thought it was going to get picked off,” Hill said. “But when you see something like that happen, you know the ball is going your way.”

KINGFISHER TAKES ADVANTAGE OF CORRECTION

When Kingfisher receiver Jake Blair picked up seven yards on a second-and-8, officials called for a measurement.
