And while the description is fitting of the size of the Yellowjackets' blockers — they average 240 pounds — Newton and Nault were talking about their line's performance this year.

“They do their job well,” said Nault, a junior who has rushed for 1,780 yards and 27 touchdowns on 231 carries this season. “They've got a lot of experience. They give us big holes to run through, give us good pass protection — they're what keeps us moving.”

The Yellowjackets have powered their way to a 13-0 record, and if they're to reach the Class 3A state finals, it'll take another strong performance from the boys in the trenches.

Kingfisher takes on Seminole at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Putnam City Stadium in the 3A semifinals.

Newton has rushed for 862 yards and 19 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,330 yards and 14 scores behind the powerful front.

“They've made strides every week, and they're at the best they've been all year,” Newton said. “They work hard every day. They're really well-educated. We have a good offensive line coach. They've learned the different fronts and they make their calls quickly. They just keep getting better.”
