Class 3A golf: Short game helps OCS' Zac Schaefer shoot 4-under 67

Monday marked the fourth time this year that Schaefer played the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club course.

This year, the state defenders finished third after Day 1.

In last year's state championship rounds, no player shot worse than a 79 in any round.

This year, two players shot 86 or above in the first and second round.

LEMON AMONG TOP FINISHERS

OCS's top golfer Jack Lemon finished nine strokes back of the individual leader with a 6-over 77 and 4-over 75 in his first two rounds, respectively.

Lemon finished tied for seventh with a 152 on the first day of the state tournament.

IDABEL'S STAUTER FINISHES OUT OF TOP 10

Idabel's Nick Stauter, who won the individual crown last year, hit a 14-over 85 and 13-over 84 for his first and second rounds, respectively.

SHORT CHIPS

*Bethel, Purcell and Mount St. Mary sent only individuals to the state tournament. None placed among the Top 10 individual finishers.

*Pauls Valley combined for the best opening round score (301), while Oklahoma Christian combined for the second-best second round score (305)
