Can’t-miss matchups
The 3A playoffs will open with a pair of top-10 matchups, one of which involves an unbeaten team.
No. 3 Madill (10-0) will play host to No. 10 Blanchard (7-3), but the marquee matchup will be No. 9 Elgin at No. 8 Purcell.
Both teams are 8-2 and playing well. Elgin has won five of its last six. Purcell has won six straight since the return of quarterback Cole Swayze, who was injured in a loss to Madill.
Running in pairs
Clinton’s Delans Griffin and Saul Pina might be the best-known running back pair in 3A, but they’re not the only dangerous duo.
Elgin sports a potent 1-2 punch with Kwame Tate and Eric Gengnagel, who have combined for 2,312 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Metro leans on offense
Led by 3A’s leading passer, QB Beau Marsaln, Metro Christian has the highest-scoring offense in the class at 43.2 points per game.
And they might need it. Metro has also allowed 20.7 points per game. Only two teams in the 3A playoffs have allowed more points this season.
